Samsung to supply 5G equipment to SaskTel
It is the company's 3rd network deal in Canada
Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday that it has been named the exclusive supplier of 4G/5G RAN and core to Canadian telco SaskTel.
It is the company’s third order from Canada, after first entering the market there in 2019.
Samsung will provide 4G/5G radio units, massive MIMO, software for virtualized cores and maintenance and repair services for the telco.
SaskTel and Samsung will launch non-standalone 5G services first in 2022. A software upgrade afterwards will offer 5G standalone network.
“We are pleased to select Samsung as the sole vendor for our 5G network deployment and we are confident that Samsung’s state-of-the-art 5G technology will deliver robust network capability and exceptional connectivity inherent in their 5G solutions,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO, said in a statement.
“The increased speeds, reliability, and capacity that 5G brings will support remote work, virtual health, and distance education, and enable SaskTel’s customers to realize the full capabilities of the latest 5G-ready devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.”
Samsung won the order for 4G and 5G equipment from Canadian telco Videotron in December 2019. In June of last year, it won another order from Telus.
