Svolt unveils pouch-type battery for the 1st time

Chinese battery maker Svolt has unveiled a pouch-type battery for the first time at China International Battery Fair 2021 held at Shenzhen.

The battery will be made in collaboration with compatriot EVE Energy.

More and more Chinese battery companies are strategically expanding their pouch-type battery businesses. 

The battery allows these companies to increase quickly increase the energy density of their products and can be supplied to various times of electric vehicles.

Envision AESC, EVE Energy, Farasis and Wanxiang A123 manufactures pouch-type battery.

Envision AESC and Wanxiang A123 secured the technology by acquiring companies based in Japan and the US. EVE Energy collaborated with South Korea’s SK Innovation for the technology. Farasis developed the technology on its own.

Chinese battery equipment and material companies are also preparing for expanded production of pouch-type batteries. China has succeeded in localizing film coating for the batteries, though it still imports the pouch films themselves. 

Shenzhen Yinghe Tech has succeeded in developing a 30PPM pouch-type battery production equipment.

CATL, which focuses on prismatic batteries, is supplying pouch-type batteries to Daimler.

South Korean battery manufacturers LG Energy Solution and SK Innovation also mainly manufacturers pouch-type batteries. 

Chinese battery makers will be able to tap into South Korean equipment and research companies into the area to quickly follow LG and SK in the sector.
