South Korean chip giant SK Hynix on Wednesday has named a new co-CEO.

SK Telecom vice chairman Park Jung-ho was newly named co-CEO by the board.

Park will be in charge of building the corporate culture and drawing up long-term strategy to increase SK Hynix’ global competence, the company said.

Current CEO Lee Seok-hee will oversee development, investment and operation to increase the company’s technology and product competitiveness, SK Hynix said.

Lead independent director Ha Yung-ku will take over Park’s prior role as chair of the board at SK Hynix.

“We’ve decided to have both Park and Lee as CEOs to better respond to rapid changes in the global semiconductor industry,” Ha said, in a statement. “We believe that Park, who has successfully run SK Telecom for the past four years, will help shape and lead the global ICT ecosystem.”

Ha added that Park’s presence will help co-CEO Lee better focus on development of DRAM and NAND flash technologies as well as the acquisition of Intel’s NAND unit.
