A senior executive at Samsung Display has won a prestigious award given by the Society for Information Display (SID).

Samsung Display president Kim Sang-chul was awarded the Karl Ferdinand Braun Prize by SID, for his contribution to the mass production of high-resolution OLED panels based on low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS).

The Braun prize is given to those for their life-time contribution in the display sector. It is named after Nobel laureate Karl Ferdinand Braun, who invented the cathode-ray tube.

SID said some of Kim’s contributions include the development of flexible OLED, touch-embedded, slim OLED, and foldable OLED with ultra-thin glass applied.

Kim headed OLED development at Samsung Display as a director, prior to being named president.
