PNT has won orders to supply electrode equipment from Kokam, TheElec has learned.

The deal is likely worth around billions of wons.

PNT specializes in coaters for the electrode process in battery production. Korean battery firms previously relied on coaters from Japanese firms Hirano Tecseed and Toray.

The latest deal with Kokam is expected to help PNT reach 400 billion won in sales this year.

In 2020, the firm posted 390 billion won in sales and 55.3 billion won in operating income, a rise of 21.3% and 3642.1%, respectively, from a year prior.

Kokam is currently looking for suppliers for mixing and assembling equipment.

As the company makes mid- to large-sized pouch batteries, suppliers of LG Energy Solution and SK Innovation will likely be selected.

Mplus previously supplied assembly equipment to Kokam.

Kokam is planning to spend around 200 billion won for its new factory that will be built on 56,000 meter-square of land at Eumseong.

The company is aiming to start operation for some of the lines at the factory within the year. Once the new factory operates at full capacity, Kokam’s annual battery production will increase to 2GWh from the current 100MWh.
