Samsung Display begins OLED panel production at Noida plant
Plant to supply panels for Samsung smartphones sold in India
Samsung Display has begun production at its OLED plant in Noida, India, TheElec has learned.
The OLED display panels produced at the plant will be supplied to Samsung Electronics for the smartphones it sells in the country.
According to market research firm Canalys, Xiaomi was the largest smartphone vendor in India, with 28% market share and 40.7 million in unit sales. Samsung was second with 20% market share and 28.6 million in unit sales, followed by third-place Vivo which controlled 19% and recorded 26.9 million in unit sales.
Samsung Display formed its Noida subsidiary in July 2019. It has been preparing to manufacture OLED panels for smartphones there since earlier this year.
Samsung Electronics competed its smartphone plant in Noida in 2018.
Its Vietnam plant is still its largest factory for mobile phones, but production at Noida is increasing.
In October, the Indian government announced production linked incentives worth 409.5 billion rupees for 16 companies, including Samsung and Foxconn as well as local set and component makers.
Chinese companies such as Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo had not applied for the PLI.
