Mplus said on Monday that it will supply 5.8 billion won worth of prismatic battery assembly equipment to a European battery making company.

The South Korean firm will supply notching and stacking kits under the deal.

Mplus has so far focused on equipment for pouch battery production.

This latest deal is meaningful as it is for prismatic batteries instead.

Companies like Samsung SDI and CATL, which focus on prismatic batteries, are more and more using the stacking method in their battery production instead of the jelly roll method.

Stacking method stacks the cathode, anode, electrolyte and separator instead of rolling them, which allows for more efficient use of space within the batteries. It is also better at reducing possible swelling.

The method is done by LG Energy Solution and SK Innovation to extend traveling distances of batteries per charge.

A Mplus spokesperson said it expects more orders from Europe and the Americas going forward that were delayed by the pandemic.
