SK Hynix’s acquisition of Intel’s NAND unit has been approved by the European Commission.

The Korean chip giant announced in October that it was buying the NAND unit of the US chip giant for US$9 billion.

The deal has been under review by antitrust authorities of eight major countries since then.

The US approved the deal in March. Authorities in South Korea, China and the UK are also reviewing the deal.

SK Hynix said it will work with Intel to make sure it gains all necessary approval within the year.
