BH to spend 50 billion won on FPCB for electric car batteries

Flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) maker BH said on Wednesday that it will be spending 50 billion won to build new facilities to meet demand from lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars.
The South Korean firm will expand its third factory, which manufactures FPCB for automobiles, in Vietnam under the plan. The factory will manufacture FPCB for battery cables used in electric cars, following the expansion.
FPCB battery cables are more and more replacing harnesses used to connect battery cells.
BH said its battery cable made with FPCB material will come in a lighter and smaller module.
It will also come with a sensor to prevent over charging, which will increase battery efficiency, the company said.
FPCBs for automobiles are over ten times larger than smartphone display FPCBs. It is import for the FPCBs for automobiles to be highly reliable, having efficient electric currents and durable.
Back in 2018, BH had supplied FPCB for infotainment systems in cars. Electric car battery cable is a new area for the company.
A BH spokesperson said the firm is expecting results from the new venture starting next year.
