SKC to collaborate with Kankyo Energy in plastic pyrolysis

SKC said on Tuesday that it will collaborate with Japan’s Kankyo Energy to covert plastic waste into energy.

In the long run, the pair will not just conduct plastic pryolysis but convert plastic waste into reusable plastic, SKC said.

The South Korean company will install pilot equipment this year and commercially launch the technology by the first half of 2022.

The commercial launch of the service itself is expected in 2023. The new factory will handle 50,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste and convert them into around 35,000 metric tonnes of oil.

SKC is currently operating a poly lactic acid film business and joined Alliance to End Plastic Waste in 2019.

SKC will work affiliate SK PICGlobal, which as developed its own HPPO method, in the commercialization of plastic pyrolysis, the company said.
