LG Energy supplies batteries for ESS in the US
For Vistra’s 1.2GWh ESS in California
LG Energy Solution said on Thursday that it has supplied its batteries for an energy storage system (ESS) in the US.
The South Korean battery firm supplied batteries to US energy firm Vistra’s 1.2GWh ESS at Monterey, California.
The ESS can power 225,000 households at peak hours, LG Energy Solution said.
The South Korean battery firm supplied its TR 1300 rack. The battery packs were installed on the racks before it was delivered, unlike previous methods where the packs and racks were delivered separately and assembled at the site. The new method saves installation time and money for the customer, LG said.
LG said TR 1300 also received the UL9540A certification from Unterwriters Laboratories for safety. During testing, when the rack was caught on fire, it didn’t spread to other adjacent racks.
TR 1300 also meets California’s ASCE 7-16 standard which means it will run stably even during events like earthquakes, LG said.
President Joe Biden’s administration is pushing new energy policies to reach 100% renewable energy by 2025.
According to SNE Research, the US ESS accounted for 6.5GWh, half the global total. This is expected to grow to 55.3GWh by 2025, the research firm said.
