Samsung to use EVE Energy’s battery for Galaxy Buds 2

Samsung Electronics will use batteries manufactured by China’s EVE Energy on its upcoming new wireless earphones.

EVE Energy is currently manufacturing batteries that will be used on the charging case of Galaxy Buds 2.

This is the second time that the Chinese company is supplying its batteries for the charging case of Samsung’s wireless earphones since the Galaxy Buds Pro.

EVE Energy has previously supplied its coin-cell batteries for the Galaxy Buds Plus. 

But the company was removed from Samsung’s suppliers list after Varta of Germany filed patent infringement lawsuit against it as well as Samsung and Sony, which had used its batteries.

Since then, Samsung SDI has developed its own coin-cell batteries to supply to Samsung Electronics.

Besides EVE Energy, Chinese battery makers Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) and BYD are also expanding their supply of batteries to Samsung. 

ATL is supplying its products for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2.

Samsung is increasing its use of batteries from Chinese companies to save cost. 

Its supplier Samsung SDI has also recently removed its small pouch battery line at Seremban, Malaysia.

According to Strategy Analytics, there a million unit of wireless earphones in 2016. This increased to 170 million units in 2019. This year, this is expected to reach 530 million units. In 2024, the number will reach 1.2 billion units, according to the analyst firm. Use of batteries for these devices are also expected to increase substantially.
