Samsung Electronics is planning to launch Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE) only in the US and Europe, TheElec has learned.

The phones are scheduled to launch in October.

The limited release is due to problems with procuring application processors. There is currently a global shortage of chips due to high demand but limited production capacity from foundries such as Samsung, TSMC and GlobalFoundries to meet this.

Samsung won’t be launching Galaxy S21 FE in South Korea or Japan. Whether it will launch in regions besides US and Europe will be decided after November.

Galaxy S21 FE will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888.

A Samsung spokesperson said launching in US and Europe was one of the options it was considering but said nothing has been finalized.

Besides Snapdragon 888, Galaxy S21 FE is expected to offer 6GB or 8GB internal memory, 128GB or 256GB internal storage, 6.4-inch 120Hz OLED display, among other features.

Meanwhile, Samsung is planning to unveil Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 2, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2 in August.
