Seoul Semiconductor wins patent lawsuit in the US

Seoul Semiconductor has won a patent lawsuit it filed against a US distributor.

On Thursday, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey ruled in favor of the Korean LED maker, saying Onyx Enterprise’s LED products sold on its CARiD.com online platform violated patents related to LED owned by Seoul Semiconductor.

Seoul Semiconductor had claimed that Onyx violated 12 patents related to LED including those for its Wicop technology. Onyx sold a variety of LED car lights on CARiD.com.

Wicop integrates the LED on to the board without packaging. It is used to make backlighting in liquid crystal displays as well as headlamps thinner.

This is the first time that Seoul Semiconductor has won a lawsuit against an automotive lighting firm.

The court banned component sales of 13 companies that sold their products through Onyx.

Back in 2019, Seoul Semiconductor won a similar injection against Philips TV.
