Samsung launches new image sensor for automotive application

Samsung on Tuesday said it was launching a new image sensor aimed at automobiles.
Isocell Auto 4AC is the first of the South Korean company’s image sensor to receive the AEC-Q100 certification for automobile component reliability.
The sensor can operate at temperatures ranging for minus 40 Celsius to 120 Celsius.
Samsung said it also applied a technology called Cornerpixel where low light photo diodes are placed with bright light photo diodes. This allows for 120dB HDR image filming, the company said.
The tech giant also reduced flickers for the LED, which will increase the precision in which the sensor can detect lighting information around it such as whether they are from street lamps or traffic lights.
The sensor is aimed at surround view monitors and rear cameras in cars, Samsung added.
The sensors will be supplied to global automobile maker in the second half of the year.
According to market research firm TSR, automotive image sensor market is expected to be worth US$2.15 billion in 2024.
