Chemical firm BASF said on Thursday that it has be selected as a battery development partner to Cellforce Group.

Cellforce Group is a joint venture between Porsche and German lithium-ion battery firm Customcells.

BASF will be the sole supplier of NCM cathode with HED lithium stabilization technology applied.

Cellforce Group is planning to manufacture 100MWh of batteries per year from its factory at Tubingen in Germany from 2024.

BASF have cathode factories in Finland and Germany. The company plans to use the product waste from these facilities to the factory in Schwarzheide to extract lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese that can be used in cathode production from 2022.

BASF said it will supply Porsche with cathode as specified using its R&D competence.
