Corning launched its Corning Curved Mirror Solutions for augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD).

The company collaborated with Hyundai Mobis, the component arm of Hyundai Motor Company, for the solutions.

The technology debuted on Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 electric crossover utility vehicle earlier this year.

“High-quality mirrors are key components in the Mobis HUD system. They help drivers clearly view critical safety information, which is projected 7.5 meters onto the road in front of drivers,” said YoungHoon Han, vice president, Hyundai Mobis.

“Our longtime collaboration with Corning has made it possible for us to launch an AR HUD with a large field of view and sharp imaging,” he added.

Hyundai Mobis plans to apply Corning’s solutions on its clusterless HUD unveiled last month.

Corning said its Curved Mirror Solutions enable a larger total display area across the windshield with a projection distance that is five times greater than traditional technologies.

Around 5 million HUD systems are expected to be in cars this year, while this number is expected to double by 2025, the US glass firm added.
