Pixelplus to supply SVM image sensor to Japanese car maker
Deal worth 4.5 billion won
Pixelplus said on Friday that it has won an order to supply image sensor for surround view monitors (SVM) to a Japanese automobile maker.
The company will supply an initial stock worth 4.5 billion won of the sensors.
Pixelplus said the company is in talk with the customer to expand supply going forward.
The South Korean fabless firm declined to name the customer.
Pixelplus has previously supplied SVM image sensor to a Japanese car brand of the latter’s exports to Southeast Asia.
The sensors were used as options offered by the car brand.
The latest deal will have Pixelplus’ sensors used in cars sold in Japan.
The company’s image sensor is its Gen 2 VGA sensor. Pixelplus said it reduced the power consumption of the sensor compared to its predecessor.
The sensor can also detect the surroundings better at dark.
Sensitivity of the VGA image sensor has been increased by over three times compared to HD image sensors.
The chip also received AEC-Q100 Grade2 certification, Pixelplus said.
The South Korean company said its sensors were also used by global car makers, including those in Europe, for the development of their camera modules.
Sales from the business is expected to go up going forward, the company added.
In the second quarter, Pixelplus posted 11.6 billion won in sales, an increase of 45% year-on-year. It also recorded profitability.
