South Korea expected spend the most in fab equipment in 2022

South Korea is expected to spend the most in fab equipment among countries in 2022 with US$30 billion, according to the latest report from SEMI.

Taiwan is expected to spend the second most with US$26 billion, followed by China’s US$17 billion.

According to SEMI, Japan will be the fourth largest spender with US$9 billion, followed by Europe and Middle East’s US$8 billion.

North America is expected to spend US$6 billion.

In 2021, a total of US$90 billion is expected to be spend in fab equipment globally, SEMI said.

But in 2022, the number will increase as high as US$100 billion, hitting an all time record, the organization said.

Spending in the foundry sector will account for the majority with US$44 billion.

The memory sector will account for US$38 billion, with equipment for DRAM accounting for US$17 billion and those for NAND accounting for US$21 billion.

SEMI collected data from 1,417 chip manufacturing facilities for its report.
