Fab equipment maker Auros Technology has signed a contract with Samsung Electronics to supply 2.2 billion won worth of equipment.

It will be providing its overlay equipment to the South Korean tech giant, people familiar with the matter said.

Overlay kits are used to check whether the circuits are precisely aligned on the upper and lower layers on the wafer.

The equipment is also manufactured by US’ KLA and ASML of the Netherlands.

Auros had replied mostly on SK Hynix for its revenue. Last year, the memory giant accounted for over 98% of its sales.

This year, it signed deals worth 20 billion won with SK Hynix with more equipment.

Auros will now be able to diversify its revenue stream if it continues to supply equipment to Samsung.

The firm had supplied some kits to the tech giant back in 2013, but since then had no dealings with Samsung until the latest contract.

Samsung is also using 8-inch foundry processes to manufacture CMOS image sensors and power management ICs, which will be a boon to Auros.

The equipment maker developed OL-100n overlay equipment that supports both 6-inch and 8-inch wafers.

Auros recorded 30.2 billion won in sales during the first half of 2021, much more than the 17.5 billion won it recorded during the same time period last year.
