YEST’s subsidiary Yes Power Technix is planning to double its production capacity for silicon carbide (SiC) power management IC by early 2022.

Yes Power Technix is expanding its SiC power management IC factory at Pohang, South Korea, TheElec has learned.

The company currently has a 100mm line and 150mm line there. It is putting in more production equipment for the 150mm line.

When completed, its production capacity will expand from the current 30 billion won to 35 billion won a year to around 60 billion won.

It is using the funds from SK Corporation for the expansion. SK Corporation invested 26.8 billion won into the company in January.

A YEST spokesperson said it has recently signed a 50 billion won deal with a Chinese firm to supply it with SiC power management IC.

Yes Power Technix was founded in 2017 and is the only company in South Korean company that manufactures SiC power management IC.

The majority of current power management ICs are made with silicon but those made with SiC are seeing high demand for their increased power conversion efficiency and durability against high voltage.
