MiniLED TV panels to become more affordable than OLED

MiniLED TV panels will become even more affordable than their OLED counterparts in the years to come, according to analyst firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).

For a 65-inch UHD TV panel, MiniLED is 2% cheaper compared to OLED as of this year.

But the former will be 15% cheaper is 2025, DSCC said in its forecast.

MiniLED and OLED 65-inch UHD TV panels currently cost around US$500.

DSCC analyzed a MiniLED TV panel made in a Gen 10.5 (29040x3370) line in China.

It used 9,500 LED chips and also had a quantum dot color filter, the analyst firm said.

This sample was compared to LG Display’s OLED panel made with multi mother glass method at its factory at Guangzhou.

A MiniLED panel for a 65-inch UHD TV is expected cost less than US$400 in 2024 but OLED panel with level specs and size is expected to cost more than US$400 up to 2026, DSCC said.

DSCC said the easing of supply issue for liquid crystal display (LCD) supply chain is likely causing MiniLED panel prices to go down. 

Meanwhile, the analyst firm also said LG Display’s 48-inch OLED panels made at Guangzhou was likely 13% to 14% cheaper than those made at Paju.

The size is 20% cheaper than a 55-inch OLED panel, which is helping OLED TV expand market share, the firm said.
