Qualcomm appoints South Korean Kwon as APAC president

Qualcomm said on Tuesday that it has appointed Kwon Oh-hyung as its senior vice president and president of APAC.

The South Korean national will oversee the entire APAC region outside of China and India, The US chip giant said.

Kwon will report to Qualcomm senior vice president of global operations Jim Cathey, the company added.

Before joining Qualcomm, he worked as Yiso/Growell, LG Electronics and Sprint Nextel.

The new president of APAC joined Qualcomm in 2007 as regional sales manager of its operation in South Korea.

In 2012, he served as vice president of sales of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies Korea YH, while co-serving as senior director of mobile and IoT sales. He became president of Qualcomm Korea in 2019.

“O.H. has built extremely strong sales and CE (customer engineering) organizations within Qualcomm Korea that are driving premium mobile experiences, setting new industry performance benchmarks in the global mobile communication market with key customers, and creating a leading platform for the entire product portfolio across all business units,” said Qualcomm’s Jim Cathey in a statement.
