Partron to develop in-cabin iris scanner

Camera module maker Partron is planning to develop an in-cabin camera module that can scan the iris of drivers. 

The company had invested 1.1 billion won in iris recognition firm Iristech back in July for the project, people familiar with the said.

Partron is planning to develop the embedded camera module that can recognize the driver and prevent them from dozing off during driving.

Iristech is based in Fairfax county in the US and was founded in 2000.

The company has its own iris recognition algorithm that ranked No. 1 by US’ National Institute of Standards and Technology’s IREX test.

The camera sensor that it is co-developing Partron will be able to scan and track iris movements, an Iristech spokesperson said.

People familiar with the matter said Partron is likely planning to use the camera module for a driver monitoring system.

This system is aiming to become more precise than the current systems that track the pupil of drivers.

Partron supplies its camera modules to Hyundai Motor The latest was a camera module for the around view monitor on the Genesis GV60.

The company will likely be supplying the camera module for the driver monitoring system on the Genesis G90 that will launch next year, the people said.
