Qualcomm CEO says chip shortage to ease next year

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said on Thursday that the global chip shortage was easing and the situation is expected to improve next year.
Supply has improved this year over 2020 and the situation is expected to improve even more in 2022, especially compared to 2020, Amon told reports from South Korea.
Multiple smartphone makers couldn’t procure enough processors from Qualcomm which affected their smartphone production.
Samsung was no exception, which its mobile chief TM Roh and procurement executives visiting the US mid-year to meet with chip companies to secure more supply.
Qualcomm, meanwhile, this week unveiled its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor for smartphones.
The chip is being made by Samsung Foundry using the 4-nanometer node.
A person familiar with the matter said the South Korean company’s yield rate for the chip will determine how well Qualcomm can supply the chips to its customers.
