Samsung’s TV chief to lead new combined division of mobile and electronics businesses 

Samsung Electronics on Tuesday announced that it would be combining its mobile and consumer electronic divisions.

The merged division will be called Set Division and led by Han Jong-hee, who previously headed Samsung’s Visual Display business unit, which manufacturers TVs, being promoted to vice chairman and CEO.

Samsung also named Kyehyun Kyung as the new CEO of its chip division. Kyung was previously the chief executive at Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung Group’s camera module and chip packaging subsidiary.

The chip division's previous vice chairman and CEO Kim Ki-nam was promoted to chairman and will now head Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology.

Chung Hyun-h, president of Samsung’s business support task force unit, was also promoted to vice chairman.

Samsung said he will oversee synergy between Samsung Electronics and other affiliates.

It has been four years since Samsung last changed the CEO of its business divisions.

Han, the new CEO of the Set Division, was named head of Samsung’s Visual Display business back in November 2017.

Samsung said his leadership allowed the company to maintain the No.1 spot in TVs for the fifteenth consecutive year.

He will look for synergy between existing business units and new business opportunities in his new position, the conglomerate said.

Meanwhile, Inyup Kang, who previously headed Samsung’s System LSI business unit, was named president of the chip division’s operation in North America.

Yongin Park will replace him as head of System LSI. Park joined Samsung in 2014 __ he was previously the CEO of Dongbu HiTek.

Samsung is expected to announce further promotions for its executives soon.
