Daechang Motors was aiming to export electric trucks and box trucks next year, TheElec has learned.

The company is aiming to launch Danigo-C, a 0.9 tonnes electric truck, and Danigo-T, an electric box truck, during the first half of 2022.

It has previously said it plans to sell a total 5,000 units of electric vehicles in South Korea in 2022.

There is high demand for electric trucks in South Korea, with other companies Edison Motors and Cevo Mobility also active in the market.

Hyundai Motor and Kia are also aiming to expand their shares in electric trucks in the South Korean market due to the high demand, a person familiar with the matter said.

The pair are dominating the 1 tonnes and up electric truck market, so smaller players like Daechang Motors are aiming to expand in smaller trucks, they said.

Daechang Motors was founded in 2010 and launched its first electric vehicle, Danigo, in 2017.

Last year, it recorded 10.1 billion won in revenue but it is expecting 25 billion won in revenue this year, sources said.

Daechang Motors was aiming to export its electric vehicles to Uzbekistan and Vietnam, another person familiar with the matter said.
