Taiwan’s Asus was the largest vendor for OLED notebooks this year, according to analyst firm Sigmaintell.

The Taiwanese firm controlled 36% market share in the sector this year, the firm said.

This was followed by Samsung and Lenovo, which held market shares of 20% and 16%, respectively, Sigmaintell said.

HP was the fourth largest OLED notebook vendor with 10% market share, followed by Xiaomi’s 8% and Dell’s 8%, the research firm added.

Sigmaintell said a total of 5.3 million notebook OLED panels are expected to be shipped this year to these notebook makers.

Samsung Display is thought to have moved approximately 800,000 units of notebook OLED panels in 2020.

The company is currently the largest vendor __ effectively the only vendor with a meaningful volume of shipment __ for OLED panels used in notebooks.

The South Korean panel maker had said in September that it expects to ship 7 times more notebook OLED panels this year.

This brings the sum to around 5.6 million units, similar to that of Sigmaintell’s estimate of 5.3 million units.

Sigmaintell expect the OLED notebook sector to continue to grow __ it is expected to account for 2% of the total notebook market this year, but this will grow to 3.1%, or 7.5 million units, in 2022 and 6.8%, or 15.6 million units, in 2023, the analyst firm noted.

Asus is currently collaborating with Samsung Display to launch an OLED notebook priced at around US$1,000.

Samsung Electronics is aiming to ship a million units of the Galaxy Book Pro series this year, which also uses OLED panels.
