Samsung introduces Exynos 2200 processor
Packing Xclipse GPU based on AMD RDNA 2
Samsung on Tuesday introduced its new mobile application processor Exynos 2200.
The processor is made using its 4nm EUV process and packs new GPU and CPU, the company said.
Samsung originally planned to unveil Exynos 2200 on January 11, but the event was canceled.
Exynos 2200 packs a new GPU called Xclipse which is based on AMD RDNA 2 architecture.
The company said the GPU supports ray tracing and variable rate shading and will offer a gaming experience on smartphones equal to that on consoles.
The CPU of the chip is also based on the latest Armv9 cores, which has double the performance of its predecessors and strengthens on-device AI on the chip, Samsung said.
Exynos 2200 comes in a tri-cluster, octa-core design. It has one Cortex-X2 main core, three Cortex-A710 cores and four Cortex-A510 cores.
It also comes with a 3GPP Release 16 based 5G modem and an image signal processor that can process up to 200MP.
A Samsung spokesperson declined to comment on whether Exynos 2200 will be on Galaxy S22 smartphones, expected to be unveiled next month.
