Fab scrubber and chiller firm GST is aiming to supply one of its chillers to a major Taiwanese chipmaker within the year.

The South Korean kit maker has been demo testing the equipment with the potential customer since November of last year, sources said.

GST could win the order sometime in the second half of 2022, they added.

Chillers are used to absorb the heat inside the chambers used in wafer fabrication. There are recirculating, cryogenic and electric chillers.

Electric chillers have the most limited range when it comes to temperature but are relatively more power-efficient, accurate and faster than other types of chillers.

Because more wafer fabrication are requiring precise temperature control, electric chillers are in high demand.

Companies like GST are also developing hybrid chillers that integrate cryogenics and electric qualities into one machine.

GST is aiming to supply an electric chiller to the Taiwanese company.

The company already supplies its equipment to Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron, YMTC and CXMT.

Last year, it began supplying its equipment to STMicroelectronics, entering the European market.
