Scrubber and chiller maker Global Standard Technology (GST) is planning for a subsidiary to support its customer Samsung at Taylor, Texas, TheElec has learned.

The South Korean tech giant is planning to build a new fab in the US city.

GST is expected to secure lands for its subsidiary within the third quarter of this year.

The company is a supplier of scrubbers and chillers not only to Samsung and Samsung Display but also to Micron of the US and China’s YMTC and CXMT.

Samsung is still its biggest customer, having accounted for 41% of its revenue in the first quarter of this year.

It had offered on-location customer support for all existing Samsung fabs in South Korea as well as Xi’an, China and Austin, Texas in the US.

Samsung is expected to start construction of its new fab at Taylor within the year.

Scrubbers and chillers will be one of the first pieces of equipment to be placed within the fab.

Scrubbers are used to refine gases and chemicals during wafer fabrication, while chillers absorb the heat in equipment chambers.

They require constant maintenance as they deal with various corrosive chemicals.
