Samsung on Thursday said it recorded 77.2 trillion won in revenue and 14.1 trillion won in operating profit for the second quarter.

This is an increase of 21% and 12%, respectively, from a year ago and its highest second-quarter revenue ever.

Its Device Solutions Division, its semiconductor division, reported a revenue of 28.5 trillion won and an operating profit of 9.98 trillion won.

Demand for memory chips from server customers was high and sustained sales prices, as well as a strong dollar, also helped the earnings, Samsung said.

In system semiconductors, the division also saw expanded sales of SoC and display driver IC, the company said.

It also shipped 200MP image sensors and 3nm gate-all-around chips for the first time, which showed its technology leadership, Samsung claimed.

Samsung Display meanwhile recorded revenue of 7.71 trillion won and 1.06 trillion won in operating profit.

Despite the second quarter being traditionally a weak season for smartphone panels, demand for flagships of its key customers continued from the first quarter, allowing Samsung Display to record high revenue and profit, Samsung said.

Meanwhile, the Device Experience Division, which sells smartphones and TVs, recorded 44.46 trillion won in revenue and 3.02 trillion won in operating profit.

The mobile business saw operating profit drop by 600 billion won from the previous year but Samsung said its new premium products such as Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab 8 sold well during the quarter.
