SFA aiming to develop battery coater by next year

SFA is aiming to develop a coater used in battery production that is much smaller than conventional versions.

SFA CEO Kim Young-min said on Tuesday doing the company’s conference call for the first half of 2022 that the move was part of SFA’s current focus on fostering its battery equipment business.

During the first half of 2022, SFA recorded 813 billion won in revenue and 92.3 billion won in operating profit, an increase of 12.9% and 22.3%, respectively.

SFA credited the growth to its businesses such as battery equipment and logistics besides its main display equipment business.

Subsidiary SFA Semiconductor also saw revenue 23% over the same time period thanks to the expansion of its mobile and bumping businesses.

SFA won a total of 614.2 billion won in new orders during the first half of the year, an increase of 56% from a year ago.

Orders for battery equipment increased the most at 169% year-on-year to 261.1 billion won.

Kim said the company expected substantial growth in revenue going forward mostly thanks to its battery equipment business.

During the first half, it progressed in selling its notching equipment, stackers and electrolyte injectors.

It was also demoing its coater being developed with customers. Kim said the equipment presented a new concept as a version smaller than conventional coaters.
