Samsung Display to gain more orders for iPhone 14 LTPO OLED panels

Samsung Display is expected to gain more orders for the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels used in the top-tier iPhone 14 models, TheElec has learned.

The South Korean display maker’s rivals have had a low yield rate for the premium LTPO OLED panels, sources said.

Due to this, Samsung Display is expecting Apple to give it more orders for the panel and had ordered more equipment from its suppliers to expand its production capacity in preparation, they said.

The biggest change in display panel provider is expected from iPhone 14 Pro Max, which sports an LTPO TFT, hole display panel.

Samsung Display had ordered more equipment from AP Systems, HB Solution and Philoptics late last month.

They will deliver the equipment to Samsung Display’s factory in Vietnam, where display panels are made into modules before delivery.

The suppliers will deliver optical clear resin depositors, edge light blocking materials and laser etchers, respectively.

Samsung Display has increased its iPhone OLED shipment goal from the previous 130 million units to 149 million units from the increased demand from Cupertino.

The company has the longest history of manufacturing LTPO OLED panels among rivals.

It had similar yield rate issues when it made its first LTPO OLED for Galaxy Note 20 Ultra back in 2020 but has since stabilized production.
