China’s Sunny Optical will be supplying two camera modules that will be used as back cameras on Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra launching next year, TheElec has learned.

The deal is expected to be highly profitable for the Chinese camera module maker as Samsung is planning to manufacture the most number of Ultra models out of its Galaxy S23 series of smartphones.

Sunny Optical will be supplying the folded zoom module and ultra-wide module.

The company is also the preferred supplier for these modules over the secondary vendor, sources said.

Sunny Optical had mostly supplied its cameras for Samsung’s mid-tier phones so the latest deal is a huge win for the Chinese firm.

Galaxy S23 Ultra is to have four cameras on its back; 200MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP telephoto, and 10MP folded zoom telephoto. The front camera will be 12MP.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung itself will provide the 200MP main camera.

Along with Sunny Optical, Namuga and Samsung Electro-Mechanics will be supplying the ultra-wide and folded zoom telephoto, respectively.

The 10MP telephoto camera will be supplied by Mcnex and Partron.

For the front 10MP camera, Namuga and Powerlogics are the suppliers.

Meanwhile, Sunny Optical won’t be supplying any camera modules for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Partron, Cammsys, and Powerlogics will be providing the two models with cameras.
