Volkswagen is planning to hire South Korean staff at a larger scale than before.

Its subsidiary, PowerCo, is holding a job conference in the country from December 12 to 13.

It has previously used agents or existing staff to inject new blood. This is the first time it is holding an event to hire new people.

PowerCo oversees battery development and production and was only recently formed.

In July, Volkswagen said it plans to spend 20 billion euros to build six factories, each with an annual output of 40GWh, in Europe.

PowerCo, besides batteries, will also produce cathode, anode, and recycle used batteries.

It will oversee 80% of the production of Unified Prismatic Cell, Volkswagen’s self-designed battery cells which the car giant says will save 50% on production costs.

PowerCo CTO Soonho Ahn will head the job conference, Ahn joined LG Chem in 1996 and was a senior vice president and head of next-generation battery lab at Samsung SDI from 2015 to 2018. He joined Apple in late 2018 to head the global development of batteries.
