The cost of the new fab Samsung is building in South Korea has increased significantly since the third quarter due to global inflation, TheElec has learned.

The cost of building additional facilities and its P3 fab at Pyeongtaek has increased by over 1 trillion won.

Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industries, which is overseeing the construction of the fab, have all raised their contract prices.

Samsung C&T increased its contract price from 5.68 trillion won to 6.23 trillion won.

As required by law, the company had to publish the changes. These announcements were made a total of four times from November to this month.

The construction price increase for the P3 Ph2 line increased by a staggering 341 billion won, or US$263 million.

Samsung Engineering also announced five times its changes in order volume from September to December.

It increased from 3.27 trillion won originally to now 3.74 trillion won. Like Samsung C&T, the highest increase in contract price came from Samsung’s P3 fab.

Samsung Heavy Industries also increased the contract price of P3 by 46 billion won.

The deadline for their contracts has also been pushed back as far as a year.
