SK On showcases EV battery tech that charges within 18 minutes

SK On showed off its battery charging technology at CES 2023.

The South Korean battery maker claimed that its technology aimed to reduce charging time to 18 minutes for electric vehicle batteries __ down by close to half of the current 30 minutes.

SK On said the key to this technology is to reduce the resistance of the anode when lithium is being injected during charging.

The company said it has developed a special coating to reduce the resistance of the anode while also using fewer adhesives, another cause of delaying charging time.

It also applied new materials to increase the charging time itself, SK On added.

The technology also doesn’t reduce the lifespan of the battery and offers fast charging for all charging cycles.

Current batteries offer quality assurances for a number of charging cycles and most of the time the guaranteed fast charging number is fewer than the normal one.
