Korean CEO of TCL CSOT to become advisor
Ex-LG Display falls back from management role
The Korean CEO of TCL CSOT will step back from management of the Chinese display giant.
TCL CSOT CEO Kim Woo-shik, who is also senior vice president of TCL, will leave his current role and become an advisor at TCL.
Kim, who previously worked at LG Display before joining the Chinese firm, had been at CES 2023 and met with partners but his role will now be smaller.
He will be replaced by Zhao Jun, who had previously been the COO of TCL CSOT.
Kim’s tenure at LG Display ended as executive vice president in 2007. He joined TCL in 2010 and became CEO of TCL CSOT in 2016.
His move to the Chinese display maker and his long tenure are unusual for a Korean national.
He mostly headed factories and production technologies at LG Display.
Since the 2010s, TCL CSOT has grown into a powerhouse in liquid crystal display (LCD) panels alongside compatriot BOE.
CSOT is seeing its supply of LCD panels to Samsung, the world’s largest TV maker, increase every year.
Rival TV maker LG Electronics is instead increasingly procuring more LCD panels from BOE.
This is done as CSOT’s parent company TCL is a rival in TVs. TCL is the world’s third-largest TV maker and has been threatening LG’s market share in recent years.
