Samsung’s new Galaxy Book laptop to be unveiled at Unpacked on February 1 will use an Octa OLED panel that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 3K picture quality.

Samsung Display said it has launched a new OLED panel aimed at laptops that integrates its Octa (On-Cell Touch AMOLED) technology.

The company said this panel will be used by Samsung’s new high-end Galaxy Book launching this year.

Samsung Display didn’t directly confirm this but its parent company Samsung is expected to show off new Galaxy Book models at Unpacked 2023 held in February 1, where it will also unveil its new Galaxy S23 smartphones.

Octa installs the touch sensors inside the panel, rather than having a separate touch screen panel.

Samsung Display explained this allows the OLED panel to be up to 11% thinner than OLED panels that don’t use the technology.

Samsung Display already supplies Octa OLED to Samsung for its premium smartphones such as Galaxy S.

These however use a plastic substrate and the related technology is called Y-Octa.

Samsung Display’s Octa OLED for laptops is probably using a rigid glass substrate, which is generally cheaper than plastic.
