Telecommunication chip company RFHIC was testing a microwave generator with a global fab equipment maker as well as a local South Korean fab equipment maker, TheElec has learned.

The generator generates high-spectrum, short-distance microwaves __ widely used in the common microwave.

The device is also used in chip production to form plasma, which is used for etching and chemical vapor deposition.

The South Korean chip company’s use transistors to generate the waves, however, unlike the conventional way of using magnetrons.

Using transistors allows the generators to be made small and they can also be used longer, the company explained, while the spectrum is more stably controlled.

RFHIC started developing the generator last year under its then-new RF Energy team.

The company is hoping to pass the quality tests within the year and began supplying the generators.

RFHIC also manufactures its own gallium nitride transistor and power amplifier that can use in the generator.
