LG Energy Solution said on Tuesday that it plans to spend 600 billion won on its battery factory at Ochang, South Korea up to next year to upgrade the facility.

The South Korean battery maker said it wants to make the facility the Mother Factory for all its production facilities worldwide, or a global research hub.

Since last year, LG Energy Solution has been spending 580 billion won already at the facility to build its first production line for a new form factor cylinder battery.

The company said it wants this line to be able to trial-produce batteries as well as verify that they can be mass-produced.

The first battery that will go through this process is its pouch long cell battery that will be verified there and then be manufactured at other facilities.

LG Energy Solution is also building a factory monitoring control center that will allow Ochang to view other production lines across the world in video.
