Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on Tuesday that it has developed two new multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) for automotive applications.

The new MLCCs are 250V, 33nF and 100V, 10microF for 125 Celsius, respectively, in specifications.

The South Korean component maker said the two new MLCCs had the highest capacity in the industry in their voltage range.

The two new MLCCs are aimed at power systems and LED headlamps, respectively, of electric vehicles.

MLCCs used in EVs must withstand the high output voltage from the battery, which requires higher capacity than usual, Samsung Electro-Mechanics said.

The company said it achieved this by making volatile ceramic powders on a nanometer scale. It also used its own coating method so that the powders don’t coagulate.

The MLCCs have passed the AEC-Q200 standard and can be used in the advanced drivers' assistance system, body and chassis of EVs as well.
