Hana Technology and SINVO to collaborate to win customer Samsung SDI

Battery equipment maker Hana Technology has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with its Chinese counterpart SINVO, TheElec has learned.

Shenzhen-based SINVO was founded in 2006 and has so far supplied battery production equipment for small batteries.

It has supplied its equipment to battery makers such as ATL and Samsung SDI that supply their batteries to Apple, Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and other major smartphone makers.

SINVO is likely to share its technology with Hana Technology, which will in turn offer its sales network, sources said.

Samsung SDI is currently using SINVO’s equipment to test its new stacking production method that it wants to use in new small batteries.

The South Korean battery maker has only used winding methods for its batteries aimed at smaller devices such as consumer electronics and smartphones.

In contrast, for batteries aimed at electric vehicles, Samsung SDI has been using the stacking method since 2020. Stacking method stacks materials such as cathode, anode and separator while winding winds them together into jelly rolls.

SINVO is also planning to set up an office in South Korea. Hana Technology can provide its infrastructure in the country to allow the Chinese company to expand in the country.

Besides SINVO, other Chinese companies such as Zhejiang Hangke and Lead Intelligent are also expanding into South Korea to win over local battery makers LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI and SK On.
