Deeper-I, a deep-learning company founded by a CEO from Samsung Techwin, now Hanwha Techwin, is looking for a bigger piece of the AI vision recognition market based NPU technology.

“Deeper-I has developed the original technology for AI edge computing, and we have no rivals here in Korea, outside of conglomerates, which are quietly developing the technology,” said Lee Gang-hun, the founder and CEO of Deeper-I, a company that develops both AI recognition modules and platforms.

One of the first areas Deeper-I plans to apply AI edge computing technology is CCTVs and intelligent CCTVs for reading car license plates, real-time. The TVs will also be necessary for scanning the newly issued license plates, which will begin to be rolled out in longer forms due to the growing volume of cars on the street.

Deeper-I expects to raise between 1-2 billion won of sales from car license plate recognition technology next year. “After that, we plan to jump into other fields of AI vision recognition, such as smart factory, drones and robots,” said Lee.

The chips used in Deeper-I products will be independently produced to around 40-50 nano levels. This is possible, the CEO said, because many of the company employees have the experience developing chips at Samsung Techwin. These chips will also be designed to be produced for other AI solution firms.

Deeper-I is currently also pursuing partnership with overseas firms. "We are hoping to pursue partnerships with companies like Amazon and Microsoft,” said Lee, adding that he hopes to maintain its independence during the process. “A conglomerate offered to acquire our technology, along with investment, but we refused because we want to stay independent,” he said.

Deeper-I will be showcasing its deep-learning neural network optimization technology, along with its AI system semiconductor designing technology at the upcoming SEDEX exhibition.
