MecaTech Systems, a Korean manufacturer of test sockets for smartphone modules, will be supplying test sockets for Samsung’s next Galaxy smartphone’s folded camera, according to industry sources this week.

The sockets are used to make last-minute module checks ahead of the shipment. Folded cameras indicate periscope-like forms that allows the smartphone makers to ‘hide’ the camera lens by inserting it sideways to make the camera module less prominent.

“We have various test solutions for smartphone cameras, ToF sensors and folded cameras,” said a MecaTech official. “It’s becoming more and more difficult to develop new technologies and solutions on account of the growing number and types of cameras, but we are very passionate about leading the market.”

The firm has been gaining more recognition as more and more manufacturers are looking to test the reliability of their modules, especially as the modules are increasingly utilizing more lenses.

MecaTech has been in the module-testing industry for the past 15 years. In 2017, it was chosen as a leading ‘small but powerful company’ by the government. It supplies test sockets to companies such as Samsung Electronics and Cammsys. Recently, the firm has been expanding to the display industry by reaching out to Chinese display makers.
