Top Engineering strikes deal with Henan China Top Opto

South Korean equipment maker Top Engineering said on Oct. 24 that it has signed a 5.3 billion-won deal with China’s Henan China Top Opto to supply it with LCD equipment. This marks the first time for Top Engineering to partner with the Chinese firm.

The equipment supplied by the Korean supplier are LC dispensers and Seal dispensers. For the latter, Top Engineering has a 50% global market share. “There might be more such orders coming in other equipment areas,” said a company official.

Henan China Top Opto is planning to begin pilot operations with the equipment in May 2020. The facilities will also be using the used LCD equipment that LG Display had installed in its P4 line in Gumi. The LG unit sold it off as it streamlined operations in 2017.

Henan China Top Opto was established as a national panel-maker in October of 2017. The company invested a total of 5.5 billion yuan into the Gen-5 LCD fab facilities. Its goal is to manufacture up to 100 million 5-inch LCD panels for smartphones and cars a year.

Meanwhile, Top Engineering recorded sales of 668.1 billion won and an operating profit of 44.8 billion won this year, up from sales of 176 billion won and an operating profit of 15.1 billion won in 2017.
