Most Samsung smartphones to feature multi-cameras in 2020
Suppliers Partron and MCNEX to receive boost in sales
Up to 85% of Samsung Electronicss’ smartphones are to feature multi-cameras in 2020, a move that would give local camera module manufacturers a boost in their sales, according to industry sources on Dec. 11.
Samsung plans to add multi-cameras to about 255 million out of the 300 million handsets it plans to ship next year. In particular, smartphones with trip or quad cameras are to amount to 30% of the total volume at 90 million. This year, the proportion was about 60% at 180 million handsets.
For added competitiveness, mid-tier smartphones will also sport multi-cameras, taking up around half of the total number of phones shipped in 2020. The Galaxy A51, which will be the first 2020 model in the Galaxy A series to be revealed this year on Dec. 12, also has a quad camera on the rear side.
The rise of multi-cameras indicate that Samsung’s top module suppliers are likely to see big jumps in their earnings next year. In particular, such as Partron, MCNEX and Power Logics are already forecast to see their revenues surpass KRW 1 trillion.
“Partron and MCNEX are expected to post around KRW 1.5 trillion of sales next year after posting around 1.3 trillion this year,” said one market source close to the matter.
