Samsung SDI, sole battery supplier for Galaxy Note 10 Lite

Samsung SDI will be the sole supplier of the initial order of batteries for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, a budget model that’s likely to debut in early 2020 from Samsung Electronics, according to industry watchers on Dec. 30.

This would be SDI’s fourth time supplying the Note series since the Galaxy Note 8, they added. So far this year, SDI’s rivals like LG Chem has bagged the initial battery orders for moth premium smartphones, such as the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S11, which is to be revealed next year. In the past, SDI had usually been the trail-blazer.

It will be up to SDI to buy some time for Samsung to fine-tune the Galaxy S11, and also cut costs, according to market watchers. Capacity of the SDI battery will be 4300mAh – the same as the Galaxy Note 10+. The battery cells are being mass produced from SDI’s Vietnamese plant. The Samsung affiliate will be responsible for the whole process, from producing the battery cells to the packaging.

Meanwhile China’s AT – which had supplied batteries to the Galaxy Note series – did not have a deal for the Lite. It is, however, is supplying batteries to Samsung’s mid and lower-tier smartphones, such as the Galaxy A and the Galaxy M series. BYD, another Chinese battery maker, is also providing batteries for some of these budget models.

The Galaxy 10 Lite is the first budget model in the Galaxy Note series to be unveiled since the Galaxy Note 3 Neo in 2014. Specs include a 6.7-inch rigid OLED screen and a triple camera.
