LG Chem to supply batteries for US-based Lucid Motors

LG Chem has signed a deal with US-based EV startup Lucid Motors to supply it with cylindrical type batteries from the end of 2020 to 2023, the firm said on Feb. 25. The volume or amount of the deal was not publicized.

LG Chem will be supplying 21700 batteries using NCM811 for the EV-maker’s Lucid Air standard, which is to be unveiled at the end of this year.

The latest deal will add to LG Chem’s growing lineup of clients using cylindrical batteries. Currently, the LG affiliate is supplying pouch-type batteries to 13 car brands including Hyundai Motor, Volkswagen, Volvo and GM.

Cited as a worthy rival for Tesla, Lucid Motors was established in 2007. The firm is currently building a plant in Arizona state capable of producing up to 20,000 EVs a year.
